Technical Learning Objectives:
Within the context of Under-camera/stop motion production paradigm, this workshop will focus on design tools and visual communication for the stop motion producer/director, including design documentation and strategy key to fabrication, (scale drawings, macquetts and prototypes etc) Students will be presented with a range of practical approaches, and will participate in a discussion/seminar on developing a "design manifesto" for their film which complements the story being told (or message being communicated.) On attending this session, students should have a greater awareness of the importance of developing practical and functional design work at an early stage of production, and will be introduced to a standard approach (in the form of industry standard vocational documentation and strategy) to designing and fabricating for stop motion production. At the end of this workshop, students will be set the task of writing up a comprehensive "Design Manefesto" to be completed before the "Armature Design and Construction" workshop timetabled in for the following Friday.
